Corporate Corruption in Global Business and Its Impact on Firms and Society
I am a professor of anti-corruption studies at American University's Kogod School of Business. My research focuses on understanding the causes and consequences of corporate corruption, particularly in the global business context. A central question that guides my research is what motivates companies to engage in bribery and other forms of corruption. I examine this question through multiple approaches, including the analysis of bribery and corporate financial data, and by conducting interviews with a range of experts, including business leaders, NGO representatives, prosecutors, and whistleblowers. Another important aspect of my research is examining the impact of organizational decisions to engage in bribery and other forms of corruption on public and private sector welfare. This involves studying how corporate/organizational wrongdoing affects growth, inequality, and broader sustainability issues at both the national and organizational levels. By examining the underlying causes and consequences of corporate wrongdoing, I aspire to contribute to the development of more effective anti-corruption policies and sustainable corporate strategies in the business world and society at large.
